2011 Arboretum Project

“One of David Canny’s last great ideas was to have the Platteville Community Arboretum (PCA) develop universal access locations for trout fishing along Platteville’s Rountree Branch. The idea came when David (or “Doc” as he was affectionately known) was confined to a wheelchair prior to his passing in January 2010. He believed such a project would not only allow more of the community to appreciate the Rountree Branch, but also to share his passion for fishing. The PCA agreed, and the project became known as “Docks for Doc” in his honor. This month David’s vision became a reality. The PCA is thrilled to announce the completion of the first universal access dock along the Rountree Branch. The dock was designed and completed by Fink Fencing Inc. in association with some trail repair and stream work behind Country Kitchen. Funding for the dock was generously provided by individual donations made in David’s memory. People can access the dock using the Rountree Branch Trail either from the west by crossing the bridge between Country Kitchen and Fiesta Cancun, or from the east by following the trail downstream from Super 8 Hotel.”
